Modernizing the Federal Grant Discovery & Application Experience
Grants.gov
Redesigned key user flows for Grants.gov to simplify how individuals and organizations discover and apply for federal funding. Focused on improving search, eligibility clarity, and the collaborative application experience.
The Challenge
Grants.gov serves a wide and complex audience—from first-time applicants to experienced grant administrators—navigating over 900 programs across 26 federal agencies. Users struggled to find relevant opportunities, understand eligibility requirements, and coordinate application submissions across teams.

The Approach
Conducted in-person research and facilitated focus groups with grant seekers, including nonprofits, state agencies, and academic institutions. Insights informed a streamlined search experience, enabling users to filter opportunities by keywords, eligibility, and agency.
Redesigned the application workflow through the “Workspace” model, supporting collaborative, role-based completion of grant forms and improving clarity around progress and submission requirements.
